Thus, this undergraduate thesis aims to make a bibliographical review on bilingualism and especially the benefits found in acquiring a second language in childhood, later to present the challenges that can be found during this course and to comment on some cognitive and cerebral aspects that involve this process. To reach this goal the research will be based on literature data that refer to the theme. The data will be analyzed in order to understand the contribution of studies on bilingualism in childhood to our society and for future research, reflecting on the advantages and challenges encountered in the acquisition process of a second language, taking into account the individual and social characteristics of each apprentice. Adquirir ou desenvolver uma segunda língua durante a infância pode trazer inúmeros benefícios para o ser humano, pois a principal ferramenta da comunicação no mundo é a linguagem e é através dela que interagimos socialmente acrescentando diversas experiências de relações sociais ao longo da vida. Dessa forma, este trabalho de conclusão de curso tem como objetivo, fazer uma revisão bibliográfica sobre o bilinguismo e, especialmente os benefícios encontrados em adquirir uma segunda língua na infância, posteriormente apresentar os desafios que podem ser encontrados durante esse percurso e comentar sobre aspectos cognitivos e cerebrais que envolvem esse processo. Para atingir esse objetivo a pesquisa se baseará em dados da literatura que se referem ao tema.
