Resumo: The present work aims to apply the rules of inertial control and load shedding to control the frequency of an operation during the process of transition from the operation connected to the grid to an islanded operation. The transition from connected mode to islanded mode generates a large unbalance between generation and load, resulting in voltage and frequency variations in the islanded system. This transition may occur in two ways, from an intentional islanding or unintentional islanding. In this context, in this work the inertial control was applied to support the frequency regulation in situations of intentional islanding. In cases of unintentional islanding, which causes many problems if not controlled quickly, we propose the use of two different load-shedding strategies to support the frequency regulation. Frequency regulation is very important to determine the success of the islanded operation. Finally, based on the analysis of the obtained results, it can be said that both simulated strategies, via software, were effective to assure the frequency variations during the process of islanding of the microgrid and thus to allow the success of the islanded operation.
