This work presents a study of demand side management tools applied in energy efficiency programs. The focus of the study is gathering techniques for the direct load control, restricting the use of the electric shower in residences during the night peak demand of the system. The concepts of the Demand Side Management tool are explained, its application modalities, its processes and other terms used throughout the work. The pattern of Brazilian electric energy consumption was analyzed focusing on the residential sector energy end use pattern in the southern region of Brazil, this stage consists of contextualizing the study problem. A research is made to collect techniques for direct load to be applied by the concessionaires in order to increase the load factor of their system. By doing that, the study aims to contribute to the development of energy efficiency projects in small electric power distributors and to postpone large investments in the electric sector. The results present a case study for a small concessionaire in the Southern Region of Brazil, demonstrating the application of some of the techniques found and the impact they cause mainly to the concessionaire. |
