Resumo: The tachograph is a device used to register vehicle travel information. Out of all information available about the vehicle, it is possible to highlight, instant velocity, mean velocity, distance travelled and travel time. For being a device of fundamental importance in fleet inspection, the verification of the device becomes essential when it comes to keeping the vehicle regularized. The National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (Inmetro) sets a 2 year inspection interval, in order to certify that the vehicle and the tachograph are properly calibrated. The constant K is the parameter used to conduct the synchrony between the vehicle and the device. This constants holds the data about the pulse quantity, that the velocity sensor sends to the tachograph, in the distance of 1000 meters. Currently, the method used to obtain the parameter K is through the use of a 20 meter track. Therefore, as this project progresses, a new methodology will be presented in order to obtain the constant K of the electronic tachograph EC 1318.Starting from the operation principles of the device until its gauging methods, with the intent of developing an equipment capable of acquiring the desired parameter, using a global positioning device (GPS). The method of using the GPS device as a reference for the distance, was shown to be effective within the established requirements to conduct the tests. The use of the proposed system turned the equipment developed an artifice, at the moment of obtaining the constant k. Among the several tests performed the best results obtained remained within the permissible margin of error by Inmetro. A margin of 1%. Hence the proposed methodology satisfies the main goal of obtaining the constant K
