Resumo: The cast irons have unique properties, which are generated according to the size of the graphite. The knowledge of these properties is of great importance in the design of parts and equipment. The characterization of the mechanical properties of cast irons has been performed by means of experiments classified into static and dynamic. The present study evaluated the elasticity modulus of different types of cast irons by technique of impulse excitation. This dynamic technique allowed relating the different types of irons cast, depending on the type of graphite with the frequencies obtained. The experimental procedure was carried out on the basis of the ASTM standard E1876-09. Were analyzed specimens of steel ASTM A36, gray cast iron SAE J434 G3000 and ductile cast iron SAE J434 D5506. The experimental results for the elasticity modulus obtained were: 204.73 ± 2 Gpa for the steel ASTM A36, 168.53 ± 0.4 Gpa for the ductile cast iron SAE J434 D5506 and 91.56 ± 0.35 Gpa for the gray cast iron SAE J434 G3000. The error of impulse excitation technique cannot be assessed in relation to the mechanical test. The experimental results obtained are consistent with the values of the modules of elasticity these materials found in the literature.
