Resumo: This study seeks to analyze the design of a swivel joint checking its structural integrity in order to reduce the mass of its main components. It is used for this purpose the finite element method, which is applied to the methods of analysis against plastic collapse, current standard API 17G / ISO 13628-7: 2005. Choose the methods: elastic analysis and load analysis limit. The results show the effectiveness of using finite element during the phases of the project development process, both regarding the design of new products and in the development of optimized products. Through multidisciplinary knowledge, premature failure can be corrected in its early stages, thus enabling the development of a more rational design with significant improvement in quality, reliability, performance and competitiveness.
