This research presents a theoretical-practical approach to the manufacture of models (tooling) for casting, focusing on a cost analysis and their lifespan. It presents the concept of additive manufacturing, its main processes and its applications, as well as their relation and possible application to the sector of metal casting. It compares the advantages and disadvantages of this technology over conventional methods of making models such as machining. Complemented by field tests, the study verified the wear resistance of models made by additive manufacture under normal operating conditions. It brings as a result of the study the aspects necessary to be considered in the additive manufacturing equipment to be used in the foundry sector, as well as a comparison of manufacturing costs. |
