Resumo: This work deals with the process of selection of materials and manufacturing processes by the methodology developed by Michael F. Ashby, the analytical methods and graphs were used to carry out the classification of the best candidates for the selection, developing properties maps and the index concepts of merit. The case study was developed applying the methodology described in the connecting rod component of the Pato a Jato team's energy efficiency prototype engine based on the case study presented by Ashby in order to select the lightest material and the most economical manufacturing process for the component and thus be able to reduce its mass and improve its efficiency. The work also aims to complement other studies related to the team to enable the continuous improvement of the energy efficiency of the vehicle in question. The application of this methodology requires the use of tools, and was done with the help of software CES-Edupack 2018, in the great majority of the stages where it was possible to develop the property maps used in the analytical method and in the graphic method to classify from the objective of mass reduction and triage from an advanced library of materials that were presented facilitating the visualization of families of the materials and the processes of selection of materials besides obtaining those of compatible manufacturing processes more economical. From the work done it was possible to select a non-metallic alloy of beryllium to make a connecting rod lighter than the original and in addition, it was possible to select the manufacturing process compatible with the cheaper material from the lot size.
