Resumo: The use of technologies to ease the process of obtaining information is growing every day. The constant usage of equipment such as computers contributes to advance the technology. In chemistry the technologies are made to help scientists do their research using less time than usual. The computational chemistry is a technology developed to make the search for information of molecular structures easier. Computer softwares were made with the purpose to avoid the large amount of time needed by scientist in labs and theoretical studies. This research brings the study of some organic acids and derivations with halogens when submitted to semi-empirical method of computational chemistry. It discusses concepts of computational chemistry and its origins, as well its importance in the technology advance on the scientific community. The software used to draw the molecules, MOLDEN, showed an easy interface to operate, while the software MOPAC, demonstrated a great capacity to do the calculations really fast. These results suggest that the computational chemistry deserve to be better explored in high educational institutes.
