Resumo: As currently there are major environmental problems caused by residues from companies and educational institutions. The study aims at using waste generated in laboratories as an alternative way of teaching, using a the method of pH variation for precipitation of a solid, in this case cobalt with sodium hydroxide, calcine it, obtain its oxide, react with hydrochloric acid and subsequently recover it in the form of cobalt chloride hexahydrate. Afterwards, we used the techniques of X-ray diffraction spectroscopy and UV/Vis for identification of the formed compounds. A small portion was recovered in the form of hydrated cobalt chloride crystals and contaminated with sodium chloride. To work in teaching laboratories, the final result can be of great value to synthesis with cobalt practices.
