Resumo: For an increase in grain yield, it is necessary to use nitrogen fertilizers, currently urea is the main fertilizer used because of its nitrogen content, however some obstacles must be overcome. Urea, when applied to the soil, is easily leached and volatilized, and subsequently several environmental problems arise. Therefore, research has been carried out to improve the properties of urea or to create a new fertilizer for the slow release of nitrogen. In this work, the urea was incorporated into a polymer blend composed of sodium alginate and poly (vinyl alcohol), and crosslinked with calcium ions or zinc (II) ions, which comes from two sources: zinc nitrate or zinc. After the preparation of the beads, the characterizations were made by Infrared Spectroscopy with Fourier Transform (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Thermal Analysis (TGA / DTG) and from them it can be observed that the samples with zinc differ of samples with calcium. It was also carried out the Nitrogen Determination by the Kjeldahl method, which allowed the quantification of nitrogen incorporated in the samples, and verified that all the samples incorporated nitrogen. The results obtained are very promising and show a product containing macro and micro nutrients.
