It is knowing the importance of medicinal plants and due to their history of use over time in the culture passed down through the generations, it is necessary to investigate the influence of this and use by the population today. Thus, this work sought to perform a survey of data on domestic cultivation and popular knowledge on medicinal plants in the municipality of Santa Helena - PR. As instrument of getting of the data, a questionnaire composed of open and closed questions was used, applied orally, containing questions that address the characterization of the participating public, through the collection of personal data and other questions that served to collect information related to the domestic cultivation of medicinal species in the residence and the verification of the use and popular knowledge about medicinal plants in the family. After applying the questionnaires, were read and analyzed, where it was found that 98% of the interviewees affirm that they use medicinal plants in their residences. Among the forms of use of the medicinal plants reported by the population, 41% of the interviewees make use of the preparation of teas by decoction, 27% make juice or juice and 22% use it as teas
by infusion, being these three, the main forms of preparation by the local population. About the origin of the use of medicinal plants 87% declare that it comes from parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. Among the interviewees, 57% cultivate medicinal plants in their own house, most with 2 to 5 species. There were 14 species of medicinal plants cultivated by the urban population of St. Helena. With this work, we realize that many of the interviewees believe in the power of medicinal plants, are users and report that they use them when necessary which indicates that these are seen as a treatment option, although sometimes there is a lack of guidance on the correct way of using plants reinforcing the idea that they share the erroneous belief that medicinal plants do not do badly. Given this fact, there is a need for programs, lectures and
workshops aimed at disseminating knowledge about medicinal plants and their use for the population, warning also for the prevention of its inappropriate use. |
