Resumo: A well-managed inventory impacts on reducing costs and waste to the organization. Success management such as that implemented in the Toyota Production System are increasingly well-seen and used in companies. This research had the objective of proposing ways to reduce the problems related to the process of receiving, stocking and distribution of non–meat raw material in a food company, using the principles established in the Toyota Production System. For this, the way of operating of the factory was studied, and then, suggested how to implant the philosophy of toyotismo with methods like just in time and kanban. Thus, the suggested solution was to use kanban to control the raw material stock of the products that are strategic for the plant; and use just in time to reduce the displacement of products that are delivered in the form that is used in the production line. Thus the optimization of inventory management will be achieved, with reduction of costs and wastes such as overproduction, handling, waiting, transportation and inventory.
