Maritime transportation is one of the main factors for allowing international trade. In order to this activity to succeed, ports are the key elements in the distribution of goods, aligned with each country’s strategy of development and competitiveness. With the purpose of measuring efficiency, it is necessary to keep strong control of many indicators; in ports operations there is no difference. The analysis of such indicators gives support for the decision making process related to reallocation of resources and needs of higher investments. In this scenario, this paper focuses on measuring the efficiency of the berths that are part of the export corridor of port of Paranagua (Brazil). Data Envelopment Analysis was a support tool to achieve the objective. As a result, the total efficiency of the three berth in the export corridor was approximately of seventy per cent, and the berth named as 213 was the one with the best result: eighty-three per cent of efficiency. However, it is wrong to affirm that one of the berths is “efficiency”, since there is still opportunities for improvements. |
