Resumo: This work presents a proposal for the use of a system of automation and control of electric power in classrooms in Brazilian Universities. The automation of this type of activity is relevant because it makes it possible to optimize the use of electric energy in these environments, and improper use by agents or inefficient equipment generates environmental and economic impact for public or private administration. The equipment required to implement this system are current and voltage transformers, relays, contactors, presence sensors and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers). The work is based on an experiment presented in the work of Borges and Fornazari (2016), where an automation system was implanted and studied in two classrooms and generated a saving of electric energy of 12.31%. Based on this study and surveys for the dissemination of the system in the Brazilian Universities, a proposal was made evaluating technical advantages, costs and financial returns of the implementation of the system in a university campus. The proposal was elaborated considering the structure of a University of Technology in the south of Brazil. One can then conclude the long-term advantage that the proposal can offer, mainly by providing control over the electric power expenditures in universities.
