Knowing the thermal transmittance of bricks used for construction has great importance on buildings’ thermal efficiency study. Heat transfer simulations were performed for M-10 and M-15 concrete and ceramic bricks. The ANSYS® Fluent® was the software used in these simulations. The simulations were performed considering thermal radiation heat transfer through hollow standard bricks. The main results obtained were: the radiative exchange can be responsible for 46% of the heat transfer through the bricks; ceramic bricks can have transmittance 61% lower than the transmittance of concrete bricks, considering the same thickness; the standard hollow bricks can have transmittance 61% lower than that of the massive bricks, considering the same materials; and the transmittance values used as standard for concrete bricks should be revised. |
