Resumo: This work has the objective of analyzing the thermal behavior of roofs in buildings of social interest, such as the social program "Minha Casa Minha Vida". Low cost solutions to improve the thermal comfort of the environment have been verified. This analysis is done in three stages. Firstly, the effect of the roof material (ceramics and fiber cement) on the thermal performance of the building is presented. Then, the effect of the ceiling material (polyvinyl chloride - PVC, plaster and wood) is analyzed. Finally, changes in the color of the roof and an application of insulation have been investigated. For this study, the building was simulated using the program DOMUS, which is a Brazilian program of thermo-energetic simulation of buildings. In the results section, the internal temperature and the thermal comfort of the building were verified through the Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) index for a period of 24 hours in two different periods of the year (winter and summer). The results show that the variation of the material of the roof or ceiling does not present a significant variation in the thermal comfort, but a thin layer of insulation added on the roof or a simple color change (with smaller solar absorption) can present relevant differences in the comfort indices and the internal temperature values of the environment.
