Resumo: Recovery of chemical solvents is a topic of great importance not only in the industry but to everyone who makes there use. The recovery of hexanes from a mixture involving ethyl acetate is a subject little discussed in the literature and the Federal Technology University (Ponta Grossa) makes great use of these two compounds either in transesterification reactions or in chromatographic columns. Verifing this residue, it is necessary to recover hexanes and to reduce the discharge of the same. For this purpose, the ethyl acetate and hexanes mixtures were characterized by density and refractometry, and it was proposed to separate them by hydrolysis using sodium hydroxide in different concentrations. The results were satisfactory and prove a simple and inexpensive alternative for hexane recovery.
