In electric power systems, Power Factor (PF) is an indicator has great importance for those consumers especially industrialists who may taxed in fines when this indicator is less than 0.92 according to current regulations 414/2010 of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency). Frequent studies to properly set the power factor, is subject to national and international research meant for the proper interpretation. In real situations, for example, voltages and electric currents with harmonic distortions that are a subject of great relevance when has to worry about power quality. Searching for enhance knowledge in this sense, this work presents a comparative analysis between the classical methods and the methods proposed in the IEEE Std 1459-2010 to calculate the Power Factor. The equations are presented in the time domain for determining the apparent power in accordance with IEEE Std 1459-2010, where the formulations on apparent power are obtained on the basis of voltages and current using their respective values effective. For validation, are presented examples of calculations for these quantities of power and definition of power factor for single-phase, three-phase three-wire and three-phase four-wire systems. |
