Resumo: The present article draws a semiotic analytical parallel based on Martine Joly's book "Introduction to the Analysis of Image", in a specific cut between Dante Alighieri's work, the book "Inferno" and Gustave Doré, which later produced illustrations for the work of Alighieri. Living in completely different periods, artists connect through creating a third artistic language, summing the two works into one, transforming the reader into an observer and producing a third product in his mind. Dante's posthumous work was the first great work produced by Doré. For this article, we will begin with an introduction about the lives of artists, for the contextualization of the reader, followed by the works of each one. Afterwards there is an analysis of chants XIII and XXI, drawing a parallel between the text translated into Brazilian Portuguese by Editora 34 and Doré's etchings used in the illustrations of the chants in the book "Dante's Inferno" published by Cassell, Peter Galpin & Co. in New York.
