Resumo: The course of specialization in Industrial Automation - CEAUT aims to update and train students in the main techniques, tools and methods of specification, development, analysis and operation of industrial automation systems, enabling them to use equipment and control systems Processes, instrumentation and industrial computing to implement industrial automation systems. This work aims to analyze the application of this knowledge in the modernization of the system installed in 2003 in the Headquarters Building of the Lactec Institutes. Its building automation is comprised of a Honeywell Supervisor who controls and oversees air conditioning, electrical circuits, power quality, fire system and booster pumps. The challenge is to develop a new, open-protocol system that takes full advantage of the infrastructure and hardware installed to minimize the cost of retrofit. The knowledge acquired in the courses taught during the course was applied to understand and to know all the equipment and accessories involved, its functionalities and peculiarities to size and propose the necessary improvements and updates. The characteristics of the system components were identified for the definition and modeling of the new system, the control meshes and the improvements in the supervision software. It was concluded that it is possible to modernize the system, correcting its faults without the need to change all the equipment due to the field work, testing and recognizing each component, which led to choosing a new PLC, but taking advantage of sensors, actuators, valves And Frequency Inverters.
