Resumo: Current industrial automation systems include a variety of paradigms, methodologies and computing technologies, communication and control, in a way that suppliers are likely to ensure interoperability of its components. To guarantee this effective integration, industrial networks, which are composed of communication protocols that promote a coordinated operation in data exchange, ensuring its reliability, were originated. Over the years, the complexity of interconnections between industrial devices and equipment increased, just as the traffic of information in a common bus, creating the necessity of new technologies, such as wireless communication systems. To be a part of this tendency in the industrial automation market, this study expects to define the most viable option for wireless communication between remote areas in a water supply system. In order of that, key information about the communication protocols most commonly used in the industrial market were brought to perform a link with the requests made by the contractor of the project. It was noticed that there is more than one option of solution in industrial network choices for each application, and the final decision is based on the inherent characteristics of each project.
