Resumo: The goal of this essay is to study the most recent versions of the Internet protocol, which will soon go through a worldwide transition process. This research shows theoretical concepts along with a practical application simulated on a real environment, demonstrating its viability, functionality, and techniques used for adoption of the protocol in the current internet. The recommended method for the transition of the version of the internet protocol is called Dual IP Stack. This method is preferred due to the low impact it has in the existent network infrastructure. Based on a world trend this work is also related to networking and telecom companies such as Global Village Telecom (GVT) where the practical experiments took place. The value of this research is not limited to the academic community, it is also important to the industry where the internet protocol version 6 will soon be adopted using the same dual stack implementation, and eventually reach all other industries in the telecommunication field in the world.
