Resumo: The growing occupation at urban centers and the growing number of empty, underutilized or degraded constructions shows a necessity for a change in the way of thinking and occupying space, especially which solutions can be proposed and adjusted to those existing spaces. Edifications reconstruction in urban centers has been an option for already built spaces. Facing other current problems from urban center as increase of temperature, gas emission, heat islands or low air quality, makes more necessary that this readjustment process be transformed into a sustainable process. The objective of this work is to develop a method for ambient readjustment of edifications in the city of Curitiba, which urban center is filled with infrastructure, however, suffers with a process of stagnation and deflation. To develop this method, we studied the emphasis that can be given to building reconstruction, directed to retrofit process. It brings the case of Curitiba, analyzing downtown area, identifying the main ideas to develop specific projects in this area. It approaches the technologies that can be established in order to make more sustainable buildings, and evaluation criteria for existing levels of comfort in residential buildings as well. As a result, it was developed a checklist that will be a support for requalification process. It was concluded that the proposed method is an important tool in the process of making the requalification more sustainable, and if applied in urban centers, beyond bringing more quality and intensity to the zone, it avoids that the occupation expands to environmentally fragile areas.
