Resumo: The occurrence of non-conformities related to occupational safety issues can result in fines or embargoes, unwanted by entrepreneurs. The present study addresses the issue of company verification of the passenger transport industry the safety standard. Its purpose is to verify the compliance with regulation 20 of the Ministry of Labor. In the alternative, the respective pecuniary penalties applicable to the case were calculated, based on the nonconformities identified and in accordance with the provisions of NR-28. The strategy adopted in the research considered the bibliographic survey, the normative criteria of NR-20, and field application of the checklist. It was verified that the company is not based on the requirements of NR- 20, involving the items Project of the Installation, Safety in Construction and Assembly, Operational Safety, Maintenance and Inspection of Installations, Safety and Health Inspection in the Work Environment, Analysis Hazardous Substances, Worker Training, Ignition Sources Control, Installation Emergency Response Plan, Flammable Liquids Tank Inside Buildings and Installation Schedule. It was calculated, in the case of an inspection action at the date of the study, that the company would be subject to a fine of R $ 163,237.74, according to the criteria of NR-28. It is important to point out that the activity carried out by the company presents risks not only to its employees, but also to the surrounding region. A quantitative study is recommended for future studies to ascertain the cost to NR-20 adequacy. Thus, company managers will obtain a cost comparison, as demonstrated in NR-28, and may be convinced that the cost for adequacy is incomparably lower than the risk currently experienced.
