Resumo: The safety is a widely discussed issue on work environments, either on company own initiative, or legal demands, the safety sector is present in the institutions and, his main objective, is to ensure the safety and health of all the professionals who are involved in carrying out activities relevant to the company operates. The safety in health care institutions should be present in an effective way, because in his environment is possible to find the five causative agents of occupational accidents, these are: physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic and accidents. The main objective of this study is to quantify the accidents occurred within a Hospital in the city of Curitiba, and analyze how many accidents are biological and occurred because of the incorrect disposal of sharps. A significant part of biological accidents occurred with hygiene staff was due to the incorrect disposal of sharps. For proper management of the accidents, were proposed measures to eliminate or reduce these. An important control measure for reducing accidents is the composition of the Multidisciplinary Management Committee, which is ideal to analyze and register the biological accidents occurred by sharps. Through the accident analyses, the committee should discuss and provide control measures to reduce the accidents, which can be enhanced by the introduction of sharps with safety devices. Another proposal is to establish training for awareness of all employees about the risks that they are exposed to provide services in a health care institution, as well as receive personal protective equipment (PPE) and acquire knowledge, through employer, on safe ways to perform the work on which it was contracted to develop.
