Resumo: The management of contractor’s occupational health and safety (OH&S) is an important issue to organizations that uses groups of contractors of different cultures, responsibilities and structures of OH&S management in the construction of projects. In this scenario, the objective of this paper is to evaluate the OH&S management of contractors in a power generation company in comparison to normative references and market practices, in order to identify barriers, gaps and factors that affect the implementation of proper processes of OH&S management with focus on contractors. The methodology consists of: (a) the identification and evaluation of OH&S requirements of contractors in normative references and market practices, through literature review and analysis of annual reports of companies from the same sector, (b) the study and evaluation of the OH&S management system of the studied company, and (c) a comparative analysis of the OH&S management system in the studied company to the normative references and market practices. The results revealed that: (a) the normative references and market practices have specific OH&S requirements of contractors, (b) the OH&S management system of the company has an adequate level of conformity to them, in spite of some gaps such as the procurement management process, (c) the change in the organizational culture due to the policies of the new shareholders and to the new financing contracts, which have specific OH&S requirements, probably had an important role in the structuring of the OH&S management of contractors in the company, and (d) the gaps may be explained by the existence of a reduced team and the organization’s size.
