Resumo: This monograph compares the relationship between reliability and cost-effectiveness of compressors (semi-hermetic, airtight) for the availability metrics sought for the system. Specific objectives porura analyze the type of compressor used in most refrigeration in supermarkets and differences between hermetic and semi-hermetic, measuring faults and equipment reliability metrics; performs compliance tests to identify the best curves and costs over life cycle of both types, considering the factors availability, and cost-benefit relationship between reliability and availability, and energy efficiency, contrasting the analysis results with the literature, generating indicators of reliability. For this, we used a sample of 2402 equipment (50% being hermetic and semi-hermetic 50%) and thus obtained the reliability indices to assist in the decision-making process in acquiring the product for supermarkets, companies from industry and commerce, researchers and technology developers in the area, using the Weibull Software. Among the main results we concluded that with regard to reliability, although the hermetic compressor be interesting in the first eleven months, the semi-hermetic showed superior performance in the remainder of the period. In relation failure rate, being inversely proportional to reliability, that rate, over the years has been much higher in hermetic and semi-hermetic compressors for less. Regarding the availability issue, according to the results we can say that the availability factor was higher in semi-hermetic compressors, the lower mean time to repair and increased mean time between failures.
