In light of Vygotsky (2003), we seek to understand the importance of play activities in the development of children and adults. We also aim to learn what obstacles of public education the methods that include the use of theater in the classroom can overcome. Therefore, we collect several reports from teachers of modern languages who have had this type of experience. It is intended to motivate English-speaking teachers to experience methodologies based on theater in the classroom, since we believe in the effectiveness. O presente trabalho constitui-se em uma pesquisa bibliográfica sobre o aumento da motivação de professores e alunos a partir da inserção de elementos do teatro no ensino/aprendizagem de língua inglesa em escolas públicas estaduais. À luz de Vigotski (2003), busca-se entender a importância de atividades lúdicas no desenvolvimento de crianças e adultos e quais empecilhos do ensino público podem ser contornados por metodologias que incluem o uso do teatro em sala de aula. Para tanto, são recolhidos relatos de professores com este tipo de experiência em diversas línguas estrangeiras modernas.
