Resumo: The present article is inserted in the area of North-American literature and aims to explore the loss of the significance of the moral values in the work The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. From a literary approach based on the concepts of Antônio Cândido (2006), Georg Lukács (1978), Lucien Goldmann (1967) and Eric J. Hobsbawm, it is presented an analysis of the individual inserted in the society and how the moral values lose their importance to the main characters.
