Resumo: This article aims to understand the perception of medium-sized companies in relation to the role of a financial analyst as to the skills and competencies, providing subsidies so that actions are undertaken by professionals who work, or who intend to work, in the financial area, in order to develop and improve the skills required by potential employers. The concepts of skills and competencies described by theorists such as Gramigna and Resende were explored. Finally, semi-structured interviews with descriptive qualitative approach were made with three midsized companies in the region of Curitiba, which provided relevant data to the effectiveness of this research. The results show that, even though all of them emphasize the importance of the financial area, each company has different vision and attitude toward the financial analyst. Despite the small number of companies interviewed for data collection, it was possible to get a sense of the most valued skills and competences in relation to the position of the financial analyst.
