Resumo: The use of embedded technology on automotive applications has been increasing in the last few years. Every year, new technologies are available for the automotive domain, from entertainment purpose to driving auxiliary systems. These technologies demand progressively more bandwidth between the many ECUs inside a vehicle. The current automotive protocols do not scale to the point of the future requirements, and a substitute will be in need in the next few years. This work presents the feasibility of the Ethernet protocol as a substitute for the present automotive networks, comparing both technologies, and displays the state of art in the application of this protocol as an automotive network, showing the plausible modifications needed to turn it into a viable solution as vehicular network.
