Resumo: This study aims to investigate the importance and use of new technologies in the teaching and learning process, aiming to improve the new ways of learning and teaching, providing favorable conditions for the exchange of knowledge between teacher and student. It is known that today, students already have access to new technologies, especially the internet and the cell phone, and that they use them daily. Thus, it is important that the teacher broadens the possibilities of working with his students integrating them into the educational process. Unlimited access to information through new technologies enables knowledge that can serve as an educational element for learning. The insertion of technologies in school education reinforces development advantages in the learning teaching process and that, if well utilized, makes possible a much more meaningful learning. The interactions of the teacher with his students in the search for knowledge through the technologies amplify and transform the participation, promoting the autonomy and the responsibility of the student in the construction of his own learning. New technologies bring new perspectives in educational environments. They provide unlimited access to knowledge and languages close to the universe of student interest. However, it is necessary to correctly use the new technologies in the teaching-learning process and obligatorily the professional qualification of the teachers. All that is done for education, with the use of new technologies, will be heading towards a promising future in the area of human development. To instigate teachers’ reflection on their pedagogical practice and the importance of seeking new challenges for the learning teaching process; to explore the available technological resources and to understand how technology can contribute to education are relevant aspects of this study. Methodologically the study is characterized as exploratory descriptive and relies on a consistent theoretical basis through a bibliographical research consisting of the analysis of already existing texts, published in the specialized literature, as well as in periodicals printed and / or made available on the Internet, in the two decades.
