Resumo: This work presents a literature review on “Wireless Technologies for Remote Patients Monitoring”. At first it introduces the concept of e-healthcare and demonstrates how remote monitoring is inserted in the area. Discusses issues such as mobility and introduces the concept of mobile remote monitoring and the use of mobile wireless networks for this. Presents technical aspects of the main theme through discussion of network topology and, consequently, calls body area networks, its technical requirements and technological advances needed to achieve them. Also concerning the technical aspects relates technologies commonly used in the area including the new standard IEEE 802.15.6 and the promising concept of cognitive radios. It also presents, as a case study, four projects of remote patient monitoring using wireless technologies. Discusses, in turn, issues such as patient privacy and data security in e-healthcare systems, particularly those related to the theme. In the conclusion brings a vision of how the proposed topic can benefit patients and promote changes on the health care in the future and which the most promising lines of research that should be followed in the area.
