This paper proposes a vision of what is the VoIP technology abbreviation of "Voice over IP", of the English Voice over Internet Protocol, where the voice travels in data packets of IP networks via Internet or intranet. It aims to report the main advantages of VoIP technology in relation to conventional telephony, as well as its applicability and aggregation by telecommunications companies. Signaling protocols, encoding / decoding means and voice transport mediators will be described and a comparative case study based on cost of telephone calls from two Brazilian telephone companies. |
