Resumo: This research, through a literature review seeks to examine school uniform presenting its history and relating their use, practices and representations. For years the uniforms were made of fabrics without quality, outdated and poorly accepted by students. It´s appearance took place many decades ago as identifying groups, differentiating students and identifying them especially when they were out of school, and often show differences between social classes, since each school had its unique style. Besides the military and ecclesiastical uses, within the school served to shape the behavior of young students, because when forced to wear clothes imposed by authorities, the power was no longer going to be individual and collective, making compliance an obligation of the group. Describe and understand how the school uniform is associated with the possibilities of belonging and transformation of youth culture, analyzing it through clothing as a symbol of social distinction and personality projection in school is what is proposed in this research.
