Resumo: This research aimed to increase knowledge and analyze the importance of family involvement in the school context and the development and learning of children. The family has historically been affected by structural changes in the world of work and beyond the effects of educational policies implemented in the 1990s , at the same time that universalized education , paradoxically caused the emptying of the contents, associated with precarious working conditions of teachers in order to worsen education in Brazil . These were some minimally featured to understand the separation from family along with school institutions factors. The methodology used was literature, because it is the analysis of secondary documentary sources such as books , internet sites , whose base was the theoretical framework that included discussions on the topic in question. The development of the research was designed from a central point, where through the literature survey, we attempted to answer: what role family and school play in the teaching - learning process of the student. This way we sought to understand what the function of the family in the formation of this individual in the midst of society. As a result of this study, it was found that the family has crucial importance for school development, and together with the school may be a potentiator for the development and consolidation of the educational process of teaching and learning institution.
