Resumo: This work had as its theme the essence of play in childhood. It is through play that observed participation and full development of the individual, which requires physical movement, emotional involvement, beyond the mental challenge inflict on each. It is observed that the child has to have his moment of creation alone and in groups, so recognize their own identity. It's in early childhood education should get that creativity and social integration. This paper presents the importance of play in early childhood education in its true sense and playful training for child development. The research aimed to reflect the value of play in early childhood education both in regard to socialization and affective interaction between the child and the school, and the contribution in the teaching / learning process. Additionally, you can understand that the common and functional games are located very close to the law of effect, ie, there must be a hierarchy of possible ages and jokes, appropriate for each age group, valuing the playfulness in early childhood education, seeking culture unique toddler and culture that will live with for the rest of your life. The result of this work came to meet the expectations of educators, teaching staff, management and parents to observe the child characteristics and abilities such as autonomy, self-confidence, creativity, imagination, emotional control, attention, motor movements, ability to resolve conflicts and exchange of experiences during the time of play. Observed participation of students with respect and harmony with each other during play. These proposals which coincided with the evolution of thought and consolidation of the teaching-learning process of every child to have active contact with the playful world, leading them to the evolution of biological, social and emotional development, strengthening the physical and mental health each student.
