Resumo: Currently Brazilian society awakens to the fact of aging and the expectation is that in 2025 this country is the world's sixth in absolute elderly numbers, that is, more than 32 (thirty-two) million people over the age of sixty (60) years. With this in mind the Federal Government of Brazil established the National Policy for the Elderly (Federal Law No. 8,842, of 01/04/94), aimed not only to those who are old, but also those who will grow old. Seeking to put in place the procedures recommended in this policy, the government agencies have proposed a joint action plan, called "Integrated Government Action Plan for the Development of National Policy for the Elderly," which deals with preventive, curative and promotional measures aimed at better quality of life of people who are already located in this age group. The decentralization of political and administrative actions has contributed with dynamic and flexible designs and proposals, tailored to the cultural differences in the various regions of Brazil. In accordance with the Care Policy for the Elderly, society, health professionals and gerontologists has been warning people about the care for healthy aging, including there guidelines on physical exercise, which has generated an increase in the number of persons over sixty (60) year in search of physical activity as a means of promoting health. For its part, the City Department of Social Welfare, in Telemaco Borba, also substantiated the above mentioned principles and already conceives sport, recreation and physical activity as a social attitude provides, citizens, foundations for an improved quality of life by facilitating their inclusion in society. Bringing also a philosophy, vocation and action policy, democratization of sport and leisure practices in the city, emphasizing that all this is offered for free.
