Resumo: This study presents the problem of current traffic, focusing on the city of Curitiba, covering losses resulting from the use of the motor vehicle as a means of individual urban mobility. It also features the use of bicycles option as a means of movement and improving the quality of life. The method constitutes a challenge for urban mobility. This study aimed to identify public policies that are being developed in Curitiba to reduce the consequences of excessive use of motor traffic, to improve the quality of life of Curitiba's population. Specifically, it sought to report the damage to the environment and health of Curitiba from the use of motor vehicle for individual mobility in urban environments; identify modes of individual urban mobility and identify improvements in the quality of life of the Curitiba's population obtained replacing the automotive modal for the cyclist modal. It used qualitative research and literature study as the topic discussed research method. Some of the results are appointed by Barczak and Duarte (2012), which states that congestion, pollution, conflicts and accidents, stress and delays commitments, offenses, committed mobility and others, are consequences of the current traffic that favors the use of motor vehicle individual travel to other healthy alternative modes such as cycling, and reduces quality of life and environment. The "Lei da Bicicleta de Curitiba" (2015) and the "Projeto Via Calma" (2014) are transit initiatives of the Municipal of the "Secretaria Municipal de Transito da Prefeitura de Curitiba" with a view to sustainability.
