Resumo: This work analyzes the Public Management of Tourism in the municipality of Itaí (SP). The effects of tourism are felt, actually, at the municipal level. The importance of knowing and understanding how is the development of tourism in the town of Itaí (SP) motivated the present work. The city holds a great potential of natural resources that are attractive to tourism, necessitating a study that contributes to the improvement and development of the activity. Tourism is an important phenomenon, which brings numerous economic, social, cultural and environmental. It is an activity in constant expansion worldwide, generating wealth and income distribution. In the first part of the work, is a revision of public policy concepts of tourism in Brazil, about his role for local development, demonstrating successes in the implementation of public policies for the sector, as well as failures in the deployment and management activity. It follows typifying the municipality, its geographical, economic and cultural. It is reported as is the administrative structure of the managing agency's official tourism in the municipality, which the guidelines, policies and instruments created for their implementation, development and management. Finally, it is proposed improvements and adaptations of the management of tourism in the municipality of Itaí (SP).
