Resumo: This work had as its theme health education regarding sexually transmitted diseases which are infectious diseases that can be spread through sexual contact, some can be transmitted by non-sexual way, but occur less frequently. Teenage sex have started earlier and with a greater number of partners, which contributes to increase the occurrence of sexually transmitted diseases, and teenage condom use is low and sexual activity is often unplanned. The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge of adolescents in a public school in São José do Rio Preto city in the main forms of prevention and symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases, as well as the primary means of finding information. Participated in this research students enrolled in the ninth year of the Cycle II of the Elementary School. For data collection an anonymous questionnaire which contained closed and open questions was applied. The aforementioned results reinforce the idea of the importance of health education that includes sexual orientation and how much may be able to improve the quality of life in adolescence. The school should explore dialogue, devoting time to such issues as adolescent health requires a different approach to ensure that the passage through this stage of life is low-risk, through the care of humane character.
