Resumo: The practical classes are of importance in the learning process and should not be disconnected from theory, in particular the discipline of Sciences, in which the experimental activities contribute to the confirmations of the concepts and definitions laid down previously. Requires for its better development the application of appropriate physical resources. Thus, the aim of this study was to verify the availability of physical resources for the exercise of Science practical classes in elementary school, cycle two, in public and private schools located in São José dos Campos. Therefore, it was decided by the application of a methodology that took acting on two fronts, one with the description of the theoretical framework for conceptual basis of the research and the second with the investigation of the scene of schools by collecting information using up a structured questionnaire. The survey data has helped understand some of the teachers' profile and characteristics of schools with respect to teaching science. Highlight for free and green areas, supply of materials requested by the teacher for practical classes, science lab, encouragement by the school for training and performance of teachers with approach to cross-cutting issues of PCNs. So, it was established that the teaching Science has its role in the students and the physical resources participate positively in the process of teaching and learning, providing opportunities to confirm the theory and knowledge generation.
