This work had as its theme the current situation of water resources in Brazil and as case study the Preto River, located in Turvo-Grande hydrographic basin. The Preto River has lakes in the central area of São José do Rio Preto and is an example of multiple use of water. Along the Preto River banks, a park was set with public facilities for recreation and physical practice. The lakes are also source of water for human consumption. To initiate the work, the first research questionnaire has applied to a group of 24 scouts aged between 11 and 14 years, members of LIS Rio Preto Scout Group. The objective of the first questionnaire was to verify the knowledge level of water resources that the teenagers had. As the next step, the group visited the UNESP outreach project entitled "Do you know the dam?" where information on the Preto River and the life that inhabits it was provided. The last step was the application of a second questionnaire to verify if the knowledge acquired in the second step has altered the results compared to the first one. The results showed that the study group has a basic theoretical knowledge on water resources. However, further development of issues - interdependence of natural resources and its sustainable use - can promote greater motivation to make part of the necessary change of the history. In this sense, water scarcity can lead to unprecedented consequences as raising awareness for the need to preserve and use the natural resources sustainably. Even so, the price of the lack of environmental awareness will be pay by all, since existing technologies may not be enough to reverse the broad process of deterioration of the Earth's global environment. |
