Resumo: Water resources are a precious commodity that needs attention and care. The unbridled consumption in line with the waste and water pollution has led to the development of more specific legislation on the subject as well as a more effective attitude on the part of the industries, which are considered the most polluting sources. Thus, standards organizations require that treat their wastewater, according to specific parameters, before the same reach the bodies of water. Industries can opt for treatment in situ, or hire outsourced services. The EMTRE company of Maringa PR specializes in treating industrial wastewater according to parameters required by law. The aim of this study was to map the treatment system for liquid effluents of the organization, define the treated effluent for it, describe the quality checking process and discuss the need for treatment of wastewater. The methodology chosen for research was case study, by means of site visits, observation and analysis of documents provided by the company. It is hoped that this study can contribute as a practical reference for both organizations, as for academia about the functioning and importance of wastewater treatment.
