The rising generation of municipal solid waste has become the target of concern as it became aware of its negative impacts on the environment and the population. In order to citizens of Blumenau a better health, quality of life and an ecologically balanced environment, the city has been developing since the 90 best practices in managing their solid waste, such as the selective collection. This study aimed to assess the selective collection system in the city, pointing its organizational structure as well as knowing the active pickers cooperative, identifying the importance of the system to the economy of natural resources and generation of employment and income. The study was carried out the data collection and information through the literature and photographic records. From the survey it was found that the selective collection results in various economic, social and environmental gains, and in practice an instrument of sustainability as it contributes to the maintenance of an ecologically balanced environment. |
