Resumo: Daily, we use cooking oil specially for frying, but one of the biggest problems is the way the residue that is left is thrown away. Depending on how it is thrown away, it might damage the environment. Management of these residues and recycling are among the main solution for this problem. This search had as an objective identify the forms of disposal of cooking oil used by the population of a neighborhood called Diamante, in Mata de São João, Bahia and, check if it is possible to generate income by recycling it to produce soup. Through the field research, we tried to raise people’s awareness warning them that we should not discard cooking oil in the backyard or straight in the sink drain. This habit may cause the blocking of bilge pipe, causing bad smell and many other problem to the environment, achieving Public Health. The field research showed that there are methods to recycle the used oil, for instance the production of soup. By this search we could see that the people from that neighborhood are barely aware of the ways they could reuse oil to produce soup, 55% of the interviewed people do not want to be part of reusing cooking oil projects and that most of them (85%) throw oil away straight in the sink drain, 10% discard oil in the backyard and only 5% of them throw it away the correct way.
