This study aimed to verify how the disposal of waste is happening in the 19 cities monitored by the Environmental Institute of Parana (IAP). Cascavel Regional Unit. It was verified that 42% of the cities dispose their waste incorrectly in controlled sanitary landfills. Regarding the distribution of waste to be disposed in sanitary landfills, 91% of the cities send their waste to outsourced sanitary landfills, which confirms the difficulty that cities have in managing their urban solid waste. It was also analyzed how is the disposal of waste in Brazil and it was observed that the cities under the monitoring of the IAP- Cascavel Regional Unit, dispose their waste more adequately than cities located in the north, northwest and center west regions of Brazil. Results indicate that there is still a lot to be done concerning waste disposal, not only in the cities studied but all over the country, to meet the requirements of the National Solid Waste Policy. Com a instituição da Politica Nacional de Resíduos Sólidos, Lei n.°12.305/2010, ficou determinada, dentre outros, que as municipalidades deverão dispor seus rejeitos de forma ambientalmente adequada, através de aterro sanitário. Assim este trabalho teve como objetivo verificar como está ocorrendo a disposição dos rejeitos dos 19 municípios que abrangem o Instituto Ambiental do Paraná – IAP. Constatou se que 42% dos municípios dispõem seus rejeitos inadequadamente em aterro controlado. Com relação aos municípios que encaminham os rejeitos para aterro sanitário, 91% encaminham para aterros terceirizados, confirmando a dificuldade dos municípios em gerenciar os resíduos sólidos urbanos. Também se pesquisou a forma de disposição dos rejeitos no Brasil, nas regiões e estados que compõem a região sul. Observou que os municípios da regional IAP-Cascavel dispõem de forma mais correta os rejeitos quando comparado às regiões norte, nordeste e centro-oeste e muito próximo da pesquisa a nível nacional.
