Resumo: The Collegiate Board Resolution (RDC) nº 306/04 of the National Health Surveillance Agency and the National Council Environment (CONAMA) nº 358/05, raise within the health institutions, special attention the generation of waste health services (RSS), which prompted the government, in decision making, to seek viable solutions that they can implement improvements in the infrastructure of laboratories and in the form of the RSS management driving with minimal purpose of meeting the prescribed requirements the established standards. Therefore, this study aimed at investigating how the management of RSS in the Gonçalo Moniz Research Center of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, noting the level of adequacy to the norms regulating the activity. Of the 16 sectors assessed, including 13 laboratories, the vivarium, a unit of electron microscopy and an administrative sector, all were appropriate to the current legal regulations on the generation of RSS. In addition, various packaging procedures and handling discharges were described in books, protocols and standard routines specific operating procedures. Finally, the study allowed the acquisition of technical expertise to discuss and propose solutions for feasibility RSS management project and to propose measures that can contribute to mitigation of damage to the public health and the environment.
