The objective of this study was to outline an overview of the domestic solid waste management in Foz do Iguaçu / PR city, in order to verify compliance with Law 12,305 / 10 regarding the selective collection. Due to the law and the abuses inflicted to nature, provide an appropriate destination to a large amount of waste has been one of the biggest challenges for the Brazilian authorities. Segregation at source is critical to prevent the accelerated accumulation of waste in landfills and prevent environment degradation, mainly the pollution of water, soil and air. The work was based on bibliographic and field research and visits to the Landfill of Foz do Iguaçu, Pickers Cooperative and City Hall. A sampling of the amount of waste produced by a certain population enabled to calculate the amount in Brazilian Real daily thrown in the "junk". The recycling allows the reduction of raw materials extraction, creates job positions and income, benefits the environment and enables the municipality to meet the requirements established by law. |
